Analyzing The Factors Which Affect The Development Of Regionalism In Central Asia

The tide of regionalism has function in the world with the development of globalization. We can see the practice of regionalism in Europe, North America, Latin America or Southeast Asia. At the same time, scholars from the world begin to explore the theory of regionalism and drive the development of regionalism thinking. But we find that the development of regionalism in Central Asia is so slow that it has be considered to be out of the tide of regionalism. This paper will tell you the factors which affect the development of regionalism in Central Asia.With the collapse of the Soviet Union, five Central Asian countries gained independence. They had to face he dilemma in domestic economy. Because of the Central Asian countries had good political, economic and cultural relations, so they started to rebuild link and cooperation. The Central Asian countries signed a lot of cooperative agreement and established Central Asian Commonwealth, Central Asian Economic Community, Central Asian Cooperation Organization other regional organizations in this region framework. But eventually, the regional organizations of Central Asia could not stop the temptation of great powers. So what are the factors which affect the development of regionalism in Central Asia. First is the globalization. It has become a global trend. Globalization is an opportunity and a challenge for the development of regionalism in Central Asia. This means that globalization is a process factor which affects the development of regionalism in Central Asia. The second is region order. The states are main force of promoting the development of regionalism. Five Central Asian countries and great powers and interaction between them form the region order of Central Asia. Internal structure formed by five countries is negative to regionalism. On the contrary, the arrangements of great powers make five countries tend to use bilateral diplomacy and realize the balance among great powers. The driving force of regionalism is weakened. Region order is a structural factor which affects the development of regionalism in Central Asia. The third is regional identity. It is an idea factor which affects the development of regionalism in Central Asia. Though region identity of Central Asia is weak, common experience and culture is a good base for regionalism in Central Asia. Ultimately, Regionalism in Central Asia is decided by desire of five Central Asian countries. The road of development of regionalism in Central Asia is difficult.The paper has three parts. In the first part, I will focus to expound the theory about region, regionalism, the feature of regionalism in Central Asia and so on, in order to looking for a theory strut for the paper. In the second part, we will see the situation of regionalism in Central Asia through considering inter-state cooperation, regional regime, region identity in Central Asia. The last part is the important one of this paper. The part will analyze the factors which affect the development of regionalism in Central Asia. They include globalization, region identity and region order in Central Asia.
