Freedom of Speech is the basic principle of the liberalism, as well as the fundamental right of citizens. It was respected by us because it was so important to the humanity and politics. The problem of freedom of speech seems simple, but actually it is complicated. John Stuart Mill, an important representative of the liberalism, who provided powerful evidence for the liberty upon the common sense. His arguments of freedom of speech has been a classic.Mill analyzed the effects of the freedom of speech in terms of defending the truth, furthering the development of humanity and society. And also gave the society the right to controlling the speech in some ways, according to the Harm Principle. Mill's principle of freedom of speech has caused much attention.After Mill, many further studies on the subject were provided by the philosophers and jurists, which enriched our knowledge of freedom of speech, by analyzing their thoughts, we found that they not only improve the principles of Mill, but also classify it in some aspects.
