Uyghur ethnic customary law is a part of China's overall customary law. Within Uighur customary law marriage customary laws are abundant and hold a particularly significant position. In this thesis, a comprehensive and in depth study of the history of the evolution of Uyghur marriage customary laws is conducted from the perspectives of law and history. By using these two perspectives, it becomes possible to understand the relationship between customary marriage law and national law more completely. In this thesis, the basic philosophical approaches are legal pluralism, Standard historical research methods (ie historical analysis and comparison methodologies) and social law research methods (social investigation, analysis, etc.) were utilized. These analysis techniques contribute to understanding of the evolution of Uyghur common law marriage. They also reveal the source of current customary marriage laws in contemporary Uighur society as well as providing understanding between state marriage laws and customary marriage laws. With correct handling of the relationships between Uyghur customary marriage laws and state marriage laws the Uyghur neighborhood can be positively influenced. This can result in smooth implementation of Xinjiang local regulations and judicial, law enforcement activities and other normal aspects of society's operation. Through promoting mutual understanding between various ethnic groups social stability in Xinjiang can be maintained and there can be significant practical contribution to many other aspects of a harmonious society.
