Since reformation and opening, especially after economic reform, our sports economy has grown into a fast developing stage. However, compared with developed countries, the sports industry of our country is still has a long way to go. According to the statistics, the global sports industry increases 800 billion dollars per year, among these, America adds up to more than 220 billion dollars and European Union has 402.5 billion euros, accounting for 2.34% and 3%-4% of each GDP, but China increases 59 billion RMB per year which only accounts for 0.56% of its GDP. Although the gap is deep, it also means that our sports industry has huge developing potential. As it were, sports industry in our country is a sunrise industry which has broad prospects for development. Vast potential for future development and rapid increasing scale always mean that this industry is in the primary stage of development. Another feature of this stage means a lot of problems including the system, policy, supervision and so on, these problems restrict the development of our sports industry.Based on the summary of the research result of the concept and classification of industry and sports industry at home and abroad, this essay puts forward own opinion on the concept and classification of sports industry. Referring to the present status and features of foreign sports industry and combining the history and present of our sports industry development, this essay analyses the problems in the development of our sports industry from many aspects such as sports industry policy, structure and market, and proposes countermeasures for future development of our sports industry from aspects of nurturing the market, readjusting the structure, making preferential policies to stimulate the development and deepening the reform of the system.
