The theory of'Cooperative Learning'originated in the USA and was well developed in the mid 70s and 80s.It is considered to be'the most important and successful teaching reform in recent years.'The new National English curriculum standards for senior-high English teaching advocates developing cooperative spirits and regards it as one of the main tasks in the basic education process.'Cooperative Learning'modes challenge the traditional way of English teaching. Different from the traditional teaching mode, 'Cooperative Learning'emphasizes learning with the teachers and learning with peers.The classroom learning and teaching atmosphere likewise has been greatly improved because the relationship between students and teachers, and the evaluation system all have changed positively. The students are more eager to learn now.The author illustrates'Cooperative Learning'by studying the achievements made in the field both home and abroad. A general survey has been made on the related researches and studies.A detailed analysis has been carried out on the junior high English learning curriculum requirements and junior high students English learning features, esp.the 8th grade students.Cases of'Cooperative Learning'implementation in class has been designed and analyzed.After a one-year experiment by data analysis and questionnaires the paper finally concludes that the'cooperative learning'is very effective in developing a good relationship between students and enhancing students'communicative abilities.
