The thesis is aimed at improving junior school students’ ability of using English. The author combines some related theories with the practical English language teaching. The theory of constructivism is used to guide the research on cooperative learning in oral English teaching. During the process of building the cooperative groups, students are provided with harmonious environment to practise their oral English and encouraged to overcome a language barrier, and finally students’ awareness of teamwork is strengthened. Teachers should help students form the learning method of experiencing, participating, practising and communicating by considering students’ learning interest, life experience and cognitive ability.The paper starts with a survey and a test about students’ oral English learning. It shows many reasons why so many students are weak in oral English and some current problems. It sets forth the theory of constructivism and cooperative learning that provides important basis for the research. It clarifies the oral teaching strategies by analyzing the current textbooks and oral teaching. The author builds the cooperative learning teams and designs different teaching activities according to different mould blocks and topics. The application of the theory and strategy is analyzed carefully. The paper generalizes the achievement and the important significance of cooperative learning and the limits under the guidance of constructivism. Teachers need to apply the cooperative learning strategies scientifically and create realistic language situation to provide learners with better English learning and communicating atmosphere, increase chances to practice speaking English for learners. Students will be guided to use English, practice English and experience English and learn from each other in group learning. This teaching model can help teachers improve the class teaching efficiency and concept of education.
