Information technology and its application in the field of education are on the quick development way. Nowadays, it is common for people to use multi-media to facilitate English language teaching and learning. But, the current situation of English classroom instruction is not satisfactory, especially,the aspect of the application of information technology to the improvement of English classroom efficiency needs to be improved. This thesis based on the situation of English classroom instruction, analyzes the factors of influencing the application of information technology to the improvement of English classroom efficiency, discusses about the teaching pattern on how to improve the English classroom instruction efficiency by using information technology.The subjects of the study are chosen at random. They are students in Class One and Class Two of Grade 9 in Junior Middle school in Shenyang, altogether 52 including the experimental class 28 with 12 boys and 16 girls and the control class 24 with 10 boys and 14 girls. The study used the random sampling method and questionnaires. Then the study uses the SPSS 12.0 software to organize and analyses the collected data. The instruments adopted in this study include both quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis.The results indicate that there are significant difference in the application of information technology to improve of English classroom instruction efficiency in Junior Middle School compared with the traditional English instruction between the experimental class and the control class, and the information technology can indeed improve English classroom efficiency. Therefore, based on the constructivism learning theory and the social linguistics theory, the writer has studied the teachers'attitudes toward the application of information technology in Junior Middle School, the students'perceptions of the effect of interaction in the application of information technology courses on student outcomes and the comparison between the result of the experimental class and the control class. And at last the thesis gives some limitations and suggestions for future study about the improvement of English classroom efficiency. Although the application of information technology is superior in some aspects to the use of traditional model, the latter should still be used for reference. If the two models are combined together in English teaching, English classroom efficiency and quality, without doubt, can be improved a lot.
