With the development of modern basketball sports, the developing trend of basketball tends to focus on "higher, faster, fuller, more violent and more accurate". Judging by their performance at B group match from the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, Chinese basketball team is still strong enough to compete with their rivals' best centers. They even had a slight advantage on this aspect. But forwards player and guards'offense is so weak that they have only one offensive method, which has become Chinese team's weak spot. Basketball is a fiercely competitive sport between groups. If centers are supposed to be the pillar of a team, then forwards player are compared to be the bridge and bond of a team, guards are compared to be the soul director of a team. The role of each position can not be ignored and the performance of each position will affect the final outcome of the game.Based on the performance of Chinese and their opponents'excellent centers, forwards and guards, this essay tried to find advantages and shortages of Chinese basketball team through the comparison of all kinds of data showing offensive and defensive ability and deep analyses of video observation and mathematical statistics from different aspects, in order to offer some valuable references for the competition and training of Chinese basketball team. The study result shows that Chinese great center Yaoming has a great advantage over his rivals on his offensive ability and defensive ability, especially his ability of rebounds control at B group match in Beijing Olympic Games. However, Chinese team's single offense, opponents'tight defense and Yao's multiple foul, all lead to Yao's low level in hit rate. Moreover, Yao's large body, low speed and multiple filling-in all result in Yao's fouls. On the forward line, Chinese excellent forward players Yi Jianlian and Zhu Fangyu'scoring ability is as good as their opponents'. Further more, they have some advantages on rebound, block and steal. But their offense is single, relying mainly on middle-long distance shooting, and their breakthrough ability is weak with seldom assists, so they can't give too much stress to their opponents in opponents'three-point line, which to some extent add more offensive stress to Chinese players in their three-point line. The conclusion is that guards are Chinese team's biggest weakness, based on the comparison of data. On the aspect of offense, Chinese guards'combating ability is poor. They rely too much on post-players, with little sense to shoot, so they get little scores and make too many fouls. Judging from the video, Chinese guards'pass is slow and obvious. They are not good at fast break and spend too much time on dribble, which causes the loss of opportunity to get scores. On the aspect of defense, Chinese guards fall behind other excellent guards of the world on the aspects of defensive drive, defensive consciousness and the reasonableness of defensive action, especially they have a big gap with their opponents on the aspect of stealing.According to the research findings, combined with Chinese basketball team's realities, I hope the Chinese basketball team continues to take advantages of each position in the training and competition and improves the deficiency and shortcomings in order to make better achievements in future international competitions.
