The development of modern society and requirements for talents today makes how to increase the validity of learning turn to be the trend of educational studies From the 1970s plenty of researchers show that learning strategies effects the English Scores greatly, although there are many factors that can influence the learning of English. In the phase of English teaching, teachers should train the skills of using learning strategies freely combining with the learning material. Meta-cognitive strategies are considered as the most basically used strategies. Meta-cognitive strategies can not be used only in learning English, but also in other fields. The idea of meta-cognition was introduced into researches on language learning strategies, which belongs to the field of applied linguistics, thus bring forward the term of meta-cognitive strategies, which is defined as a series of actions or measures that coordinate their own learning process by allowing them to control their own cognition,with the central factors of centering, planning and arranging, monitoring and evaluating learning (Oxford,1990)With the development of researching on learning strategy, some researchers turn to do research on training the strategies for middle school students. However, only a few researches are on the strategies training for vocational school students. In fact, the students in vocational schools need more training for strategies, and they should strengthen the confidence of learning English, learn to make a learning plan, manage their learning and summarize the correct ways in learning strategies. So that the theory of learning strategies means more valuable for English teaching in vocational school. And as the groundwork, training for metacognitive strategies should be practical.The dissertation is the study on present situation of engineering students'using of metacognitive strategy. The study proved that use of metacognitive strategy is one of the factors that influence English scores. Training for metacognitive strategy are carried out in English classes. The following conclusions were arrived based on the result of study:1.Engineering students have poor sense of using metacognitive strategy and low level of using learning strategies.2.English scores are influenced by using of learning strategies. The main difference between a successful English learner and an unsuccessful learner lies in how much they use the metacognitive strategy.3.When combining with the teaching content, the training for metacognitive strategy can help English learners increase English scores obviously.
