As for elementary education in our country, English teaching material is the main content of English teaching and learning in schools. Currently, the concerns and researches on English teaching materials are getting more and more. However, most of the researches explored the materials from the perspective of the materials themselves. In fact, the English teaching materials should be treated as a kind of relationship between English teaching and the concrete materials from the teaching perspective in the relationship-thinking. The materials are a relational conception rather than an ontic one. So the use of materials begins to be concerned by researchers.This thesis aims at exploring how an English teacher reflects the theories of second language acquisition by using materials when she prepares for her lessons. This is a kind of qualitative research which includes such methodologies as thinking aloud protocols, transcription, and interview etc. The main theories are the analysis and design of English teaching materials, the second language acquisition, and the teachers'personal practical know ledge by which we analyze the study and get the findings and conclusions.After the analysis and discussion, we get the conclusions that when the teacher prepares for her lesson, she firstly considers about the students'needs and the New English Curriculum Standards (NECS) and tries to be in line with them as possible as she can. As for the use of materials, the teacher adds and supplements some contents when necessary and reorders the sequences in view of teaching plan. During this process, the personal practical knowledge helps the teacher make the concrete decisions and plan the teaching activities. After drawing on adaptation of materials and personal practical knowledge, the teacher reflects the theories of second language acquisition by importing comprehensible input, paying attention to the morpheme order, comparing function with form, modifying language input, enhancing the frequency of input items, reducing the students'anxieties, providing prizes for the students, and organizing pair work and group work. This thesis is an attempt to ascertain the relationship between the teachers'use of materials and the theories of second language acquisition from the teaching perspective. We hope that as a kind of reference, this study will be heuristic and helpful for the subsequent researches.
