A Study On Concealment And Disclosure Of Sexual Abuse Experience In Childhood

Child sexual assault is not both a problem has been neglected and is being paid more attention, but also a problem needs to be resolved. Child sexual abuse problem has the following three characteristics: 1. the incidence of child sexual abuse can not be estimated; 2. the detection rate and reporting rate of child sexual abuse are extremely low; 3.the dangers of child sexual abuse cases should not be underestimated. Under the guidance of these three characteristics, I give a further reflection on the issue of concealment and disclosure in child sexual abuse.This paper is the second order based on 19 interviews of victims who had suffered sexual abuse in childhood. I hope this study can summarize the basic profiles that victims of child sexual abuse choose to hide or disclose, and make the analysis of procedural reasons that they choose to hide or disclose. My study found, concealment and disclosure is two different coping styles, but between the two are interconnected, it is not like that the relationship is mutual antagonism. With interview data, the author divided the coping style of concealment and disclosure into three states which are completely conceal, orientation conceal or orientation disclosure, full disclosure. Among them, the probability of full disclosure is very small, the coping experience of concealment and disclosure show a trend that changes from completely conceal to orientation disclosure. In the cause analysis of concealment and disclosure, the reasons for concealing include the threat of predators, young and foolish, self-blame and fear, lack of parental emotion, Parental neglect, the shackles of sexual attitudes, lack of legal knowledge and so on. The reasons of disclosure will vary due to the object of disclosure; it includes removing the burden of thinking, exchanging love, sharing a secret, seeking help. Overall, the real reason that the victim chose to disclose or conceal is entitled to the size of their own strength and the availability of support.At the same time, due to the interconnected relationship between concealment and disclosure, I believe that the process of conceal to disclosure reflects the majority of our victims'survival and growth process of child sexual abuse, in the local cultural background. The process is from ignorance to knowledge and from repression to liberation. This process is the results that catalyzed by a variety of supportive factors such as individual, family and society.For an overview of concealment and disclosure, in the solution to the problem of child sexual abuse, china needs to build a benign disclosure mechanism, to help the victims to better disclosure from the hide, even helping the victims directly choose disclosure. Based on the changing process of concealment and disclosure and the analysis of supportive factors, I made some suggestions about building a disclosure mechanism in accordance with disclosure atmosphere,disclosure channels,legal support of disclosure and the service system of disclosure. And to learn from foreign experience with Hong Kong and Taiwan,I try to reflect on the practice of our social workers involved in child sexual abuse.
