Under the new curriculum, the teachers'motivation in high schools and their living state has been paid more attention to. In order to cope with some teachers who feel tired of the career and help teachers step forward in their development of the occupation, it is crucial to investigate teachers'motivation in high scools.In order to make it clear how these factors affect English teachers'motivation in high school, a research of teachers'work motivation was conducted based on the comprehending its structure fully.Then the study was carried out among those 123 English teachers who work at high schools in Anhui province. The result shows that the effect of six basic elements on teachers'work is crucial:motivation for life and for self-esteem is the most significant, motivation for cooperation and for self-development is the less and motivation for responsibility and for power is placed between the two.The result of the study is as follows:(1)English Teachers from the high school in the counties,young teachers as well as male teachers are more concerned about power.(2)Because the work pressure is less ,request for time is not strict and the school management is poor,teachers who teach at high schools in the counties have stronger cooperation motivation.(3)Teachers from the city and with less title of teaching post in high school show stronger sense of work's responsibility.(4)English teachers in high school show less sense of self-fulfillment motivation.(5)No big difference in the type of schools,age, teaching length, education qualification,leadership,and the title of a technical post is found.Wholly speaking, respect motivation controls all the teachers'behavior.Based on the above study, the following several advice has been put forward:1.The survival status of teachers should be paid more attention.2. A better environment should be created to help teachers work efficiently and happily.(1) Orderly, scientific and efficient system should be created, because reform related to relations and rules is the most important compared with other factors.(2) A better school environment, learning habits and harmonious campus is placed the first place.3. English teachers should learn to get along with their colleagues and students in harmony4. They should learn to better themselves and strengthen their self-respect..
