| Goalkeeper is an essential role on the football field, which needs the characteristics of passion and calm. Therefore, from that point of view, the role of goalkeeper is very important. At the last defense of the whole team, initially his task is to defend the goal from the opposite side shooting into its own gate. However, with the development of contemporary football game, defending the gate is not only the unique task for the goalkeeper. He should become the one who can not only defend but also attack. He needs to assistant his defenders to control the penalty area, even out-of the penalty area, directing and organizing the defense of the whole team. Meanwhile, he is one of the organizers of triggering the attack.UEFA Champions League is recognized as the highest level of intercontinental football game in the world, which contains the best football team from every European football champions. This article takes the goalkeeper as the study object, who played in the last 123 games of the final stage of 2009-2010 Season European Cup Champion, doing a research on the main characteristics and regular patterns of them, by the mean of documentation, video observation, mathematical statistics and other related method.From the result of the research:1, From the last 123 games of the final stage of 2009-2010 Season European Cup Champion, the main attack triggered by the goalkeepers, within the 90-minute game, was foot kicking, yet the high success ratio was from hand serving. Since the opposite player will mark the goalkeeper's partner after the goalkeeper receives the ball, which will lead to the goalkeeper transferring the ball to his partner by foot-kicking. Therefore, to improve the goalkeeper's foot-kicking level is very essential. 2, As far as the direction of foot-kicking by goalkeepers is concerned, the success ratio of the side field is higher than that of the middle field. That's mainly because there are fewer defenders in side field than in.the middle field, lacking of defense strength.3, When the goalkeeper quickly decides to change into attack from defense, serving the ball by hand, the more skills adopted by them is to rolling the ball to his partner. Through the video analysis of those matches, most goalkeepers chose a more steady way, that is to serve the ball to his partner directly, letting his partner starting the attack.4, The times of dealing with the return pass was 1532 times, of which 1343 times was successful, the success ratio was 87.66%,12.45 times per game. The most method used to deal with the return pass is to transfer the ball, which states that ball-transferring is the 1st option to handle the return pass.5, The 2nd field is the Top 1 area of bad timing defense, which is the hot spot for both sides. The 2nd field is the center place in front of the gate, of which the distance to the gate is appropriate. The 1st reason of inappropriate attack in this field has the following reasons. Firstly, the goalkeeper made a mistake of predict the route of the coming ball. Second factor is the hesitation, lastly, there are more players at the same time, causing high disturbance.It has great meaning of studying the main characteristics of the attack & defense of the goalkeeper during the European Cup Champion, which can offer the statistics reference for understanding that of the overseas high-level goalkeepers, then we could train our goalkeepers on purpose according to the exposed problems so that to improve the whole level of the goalkeepers of our country.
