With the rising and development of positive psychology, humor is focused more and more by researchers. As an important psychological characteristics and positive emotion experience, humor can improve individual immune function, give vent to negative mood, promote interpersonal relationship, keep healthy and so on. The relationship between the humor and mental health has been an important research topic by domestic and abroad scholars. With the different ways, the different components of humor affect the individual physical and mental health. Therefore, if the individual understands and treads the humor correctly, learns to appreciate humor, expresses humor appropriately, the humor will improve the individual health.The issues of college students' mental health have being attached great importance by people from all works of life. In value diversification of modern society, the college students face all kinds of pressure and confusion, and are easy to have all sorts of psychological problems. Foreign studies show that, when individual in the press situation, perception about the problem's humor and maintaining humor attitude can make the individual more effectively deal with pressure. Therefore, research about the relationship between the cognitive styles,coping styles and mental health plays an important role on helping students perfect personality and realize self-value.This study examined the humor style characteristic and the relationship between the humor styles,cognitive styles,coping styles and mental health in the college students, using the Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ) edited by Chen Guohai,ETF,Coping Style Questionnaire edited by Xiao Jihua and the Self-Reported Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) edited by Wang Zhengyu. The HSQ,ETF,Coping Style Questionnaire and the SCL-90 were administered to 260 university students.On Self-defeating and Aggressive humor subscales, males obtained significantly higher scores than did females. On Self-defeating humor subscales, liberal arts students obtained significantly higher scores than did science and engineering students. On Aggressive humor subscales, the field-independent students obtained significantly higher scores than did the field-dependent students. Affiliative humors was positively correlated with problem solving and help seeking, but was negatively correlated with withdrawal; self-enhancing humor was positively correlated with problem solving, while was negatively correlated with self-accusation and withdrawal; aggressive humor and self-defeating humor were positively correlated with self-accusation,fantasy and rationalization. Affiliative humors had positively prediction power on problem solving and help seeking, but had negatively prediction power on withdrawal; self-enhancing humor had positively prediction power on problem solving, but had negatively prediction power on self-accusation; aggressive humor had positively prediction power on self-accusation,fantasy and rationalization. Affiliative humor and self-enhancing humor were negatively correlated, while aggressive humor and self-defeating humor were positively correlated with the subscales and the general symptomatic index of the SCL-90.Conclusion:Self-enhancing humor and Affiliative humor had strong positively prediction power on the positive coping styles, and aggressive humor had positively prediction power the on negative coping styles. Self-enhancing humor had strong negatively prediction power on the subscales and the general symptomatic index of the SCL-90, but self-defeating humor had strong positively prediction power on the subscales and the general symptomatic index of the SCL-90.
