Nowadays, it is obvious that many high school students view English as the most difficult subject. Many students got low scores in the college entrance examination. We need to change the current situation to help them improve their English study, form a good habit of English study, and train their ability of self-study for their future development. From many students and teachers'eyes, English reading is the most difficult part in the study. If you are eager to change the situation, you should first improve English reading. Therefore, the study on English reading is valuable and necessary.The thesis studies English reading teaching in Heyang County. Through reviewing the theories home and abroad, the author made a questionnaire to investigate high school reading teaching in Heyang County. The author first explained reading in psychological view, cognitive view and psycholinguistic view. Then the author stated some reading theories as:bottom-up, top-down, interactive and schema theories. According to the specific situations in Heyang County, the author made three questionnaires on the features of students and teachers to investigate the problems in English reading teaching in Heyang County, Such as the motivation, custom and ways of English reading. After collection and analyzing the information, the author concluded the difficulties of English reading in Heyang County and gave some suggestions on improving English reading.
