Research On The Current Development Of "sunshine Sports"in Secondary Schools In Southern Jiangsu

"Sunshine Sports"is intended to promote the students'physical conditions in contemporary society. It conforms to the current PE reformation that blossoms in schools as well as contributes to the innovation and creativity of PE development. In addition,"Sunshine Sports"aims to establish a new practice model of school PE with Chinese characteristics; as a result, the physical wellness and overall development of students are propelled to a new level. Since the facilitation of"Youthful Sport"in 2007, every region and local schools have made tremendous efforts to practice this new policy. Thus, colorful and meaningful sports have achieved numerous and fruitful results. However, due to the lack of sufficient data and guidelines and the short time of the whole campaign, enormous problems have emerged. Therefore, to initiate the research on the current development of"Sunshine Sports"in schools is crucial and to find out the hidden weakness, then to seek solutions to solve the problems are of uttermost importance.(1) This paper did a survey on the current development of PE in 27 secondary schools in southern Jiangsu; adopted a wide variety of methods of study bibliographic references, questionnaire, observation and interviews from the perspective of organizing, detailed practice, staff and supervision. The main conclusions are as follows:(2) In most of the schools in southern Jiangsu, the school president paid great attention on the popularity of"Sunshine Sports", the particular organizations are also established. Yet, the participation rate is relatively low, and most of the activities mechanically copy the government'guidance paper without combing its own characteristics with actual scientific goals. Consequently, the activities are short of innovation, and carried out in the same outdated model.(3) In the practice of"Sunshine Sports", most of the schools in southern Jiangsu could guarantee one-hour sports exercise time; while most of the schools would divide it into two parts---class break and after-class exercises. As to the items of sports, track and field, gymnastics and some ball games are dominant. Some immerging sports such as kungfu, board skating and rock-climbing are rare to see.(4) As to the sports facilities, financial support and security measures, the current conditions of most of these schools could maintain the basic practice of daily exercises. Otherwise, to make it more interesting, and of better quality and higher level, tremendous work needs to be done. The restrictions factors such as the shortage of sports equipment, the inadequacy of funding are urgent to be solved.(5) The supervision and inspection work is insufficient during the practice of"Sunshine Sports". Besides, the Education Department lags behind in its control over this campaign; normally it only gives the general and abstract guidance without constantly making it a norm. Thus, it is not uncommon to see that some of the"Sunshine Sports"practiced only to yield to the superiors.
