The word Education is an all-embracing sector which cuts across all other sectors. Educational reform is a process of bringing about a systematic change in the educational system. Other areas such as curriculum development and operational structures are often areas targeted for change. The focus of this paper is to assess and analyze the basic education system and reforms in Sierra Leone in the 21st century. This paper will look at the 6.3.3.4 system of education from the standpoint of a basic nine years of compulsory education starting from the Primary to the Junior Secondary School levels. The writer will also look at the challenges and opportunities in trying to meet the demands of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG-2015) which aimed at a 100% completion of primary education in the country as a whole. The 2004 Education Act with a goal of achieving Education for All (EFA).Furthermore, this paper will also assess the quality of the different types of the educational curricular and the performance of students under such act or period. There will be a clear focus on the performance level of gender, their economic and financial ability and the impact on the society. An analysis will be made on the percentages of literacy by sex at Primary and the Junior Secondary School levels in regions within the country.Moreover, there will be an assessment of the various educational policies and reforms by governments. A successful implementation of those policies, achievements, challenges and opportunities in line with the country's economic status report issued by the World Bank. The writer of this paper is with the opinion that with a dynamic and willing government, education will be the key that unlocks the door to a brighter and prosperous future of Sierra Leone.
