Psychological resilience is a firm, efficient, and flexible psychological resource that individuals show when they implement and maintain their goal pursuits.Psychological toughness directly affects athletes’ performance in competitions and is an indispensable mental ability for athletes. As we all know, adolescence is a crucial period for the development of athletes’ mental resilience, and we should seize this window period to start training. However, traditional training is not designed specifically.13 to 16 years old is a golden period for the development of mental resilience of young athletes. However,in Sierra Leone, youth coaches have focused more on the training of technology, tactics and body, while ignoring the development of mental resilience of players.Traditional training only focuses on the training of athletes’ technical and tactical skills, such as basic techniques such as passing and shooting,or tactical training such as defensive counterattack and backcourt organization, while ignoring the development of athletes’ psychological skills training.Over time, this has led to a low level of mental resilience in Sierra Leone’s national youth team athletes, affecting the performance of sports. The continuous development of psychological skill training in the Chinese sports field provides a reference for Sierra Leone to carry out corresponding training. This study hypothesizes that 24 weeks of psychological skill training can help improve the player’s psychological resilience. The study explored the impact of psychological skill training on athletes’ mental resilience through intervention of psychological skill training for Sierra Leone 13-16-year-old football players. The study selected 400 young football players from the age of 13 to 16 in Sierra Leone. The experiment is divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group conducts 24 weeks of psychological skill training, and the control group conducts regular football training.Pre-test and post-test of psychological resilience were conducted in the experimental group and the control group, respectively. The results show that after 24 weeks of psychological skill training intervention, the level of psychological resilience of the experimental group is significantlyhigher than that of the control group, and psychological skill training intervention can significantly improve the mental resilience of athletes, which proves the research hypothesis. This research draws the following conclusions through the research methods of literature, experiment, comparative analysis, logical analysis, mathematical statistics,etc.:1.Psychological skills training interventions, including appearance training, breathing training, progressive muscle relaxation training, goal setting training,self-talk training and self-confidence training, have a positive effect on improving the mental resilience of young football players.2.Self-talk and progressive muscle relaxation contribute to the improvement of athletes’ psychological toughness control dimension.3.Goal setting training and appearance training can help athletes improve their psychological resilience input dimension.4.Breathing training and self-confidence training contribute to the improvement of athletes’ psychological resilience challenge dimension.5.Self-confidence training and goal setting training can help athletes improve their psychological resilience and self-confidence dimension.6.Sierra Leone’s domestic coaches lack the concept of targeted training on psychological skill training and mental resilience. In the future training practice, coaches should pay attention to the training of athletes’ psychological skills.
