English curriculum documents are the basic standard that the educational government department makes for English curriculum. They are the basis that manages and evaluates English curriculum. It is one of the basic tasks to forecast and master the basic tendency of English curriculum reform properly in the educational management, especially in the curriculum management by comparing the varied curriculum documents. From The Explanation to the English Curriculum Standards for the Ordinary Senior School in the Fulltime Obligated Education, which has been compiled in the Elementary Education Bureau of the Minister of Education, we know that when the guiding document for the English curriculum reform The English Curriculum Standard for Ordinary Senior School in the Fulltime Obligated Education (Experimental Draft)was made in the Chinese mainland, we consulted and used many curriculum documents of other countries and regions for reference ,but without Taiwan's only. This is such a regret, because we have the same root and ancestry, the same culture and language and the same cultural psychology. Both the English documents of Taiwan and the Chinese mainland reflect the regulars of teaching English of the Chinese people in part .The English curriculum document of Taiwan should be more useful than the ones of any other countries and regions .According to CNK1, until now (March 15,2003) since 1994,few papers comparing the English curriculum documents were issued in the key periodical such as the research papers and the periodical with the characteristics of specialittes in our country,espcially there was none involving the curriculum documents of Taiwan.By comparing the English curriculum documents in the obligated education between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland, this thesis mainly understands the characteristics and the same and different points of the English curriculum documents of Taiwan and the Chinese mainland, and summerizes the basic tendency of the English curriculum reform of our country on the basis of it.This thesis mainly contains four chapters as follows: Chapter 1 introduces two curriculum documents which are being carried out and experimented in the Chinese mainland; Chapter2 introduces the two curriculum documents which are being carried out and experimented in Taiwan; Chapters compares the curriculum document which is being experimented in the Chinese mainland with that in Taiwan; Chapter 4 explores the basic tendency of the English curriculum reform of our country.Cnapter 1: Since the Nine-year Obligated Education was put into practice in our country in 1986, four English curriculum documents for junior school have been issued. Now the ones which are being carried out and experimented are English-teaching Outline for Fulltime Junior School in the Nine-year Obligated Education (the Revised Edition on trial), 2000 and English Curriculum Standard for Ordinary Senior School in the Fulltime Obligated Education (Draft on experiment, 2001. This chapter mainly makes an overall introduction of the two documents, and on the basis of it, summarizes the chiefcharacteristics of the latter in terms of the curriculum reform.Chapter 2: The Nine-year Obligated Education was put into practice and English Curriculum Standard for National School was isuued in Taiwan in 1968.lt was revised in 1972,1983, i985and 1994.1n the year 2000,the name "Curriculum Standard" was replaced by "Curriculum Outline", the English curriculum was put into practice in primary school and issued English Curriculum Temporary Outline for National Secondary School and Primary School was issued. In 2002,it was revised as English Curriculum Outline for National Secondary School and Primary School (Draft),and in January,2003,it was revised as English Curriculum Outline for National Secondary School and Primary School. Now what are being and will be carried out are English Curriculum Standard for National Secondary School, 1994 and English Curriculum Outline for National Secondary School and Primary School, 2003.
