The Application Of English-learning Based On The MS Agent Technology And Constructivism Theory

As a software Agent instrument, because of its powerful interactive function, distinctive human-oriented characteristics, graceful interface and simple integrated programming method, MS Agent has had great influences on the traditional interface which is composed of menu, mutton, and prompt box between computer and human being, therefore it has a bright future in the fields of such Multimedia development, Web application, Education Software and so on.Upon the introduce of MS Agent, TTS Technology and the theory of constructivism, this thesis has primarily done some researches on the application of MS Agent technology in English learning. As a result, I have developed a learning software Reading Everything (HE for short) in VB6.0 environment, which is aimed to improve the listening comprehension level of English learner. This learning software can be used to read and listen any English text, and can be used to listen and write down some random English number, telephone number, date and time, thus it provide a practical method of improving Chinese students' English listening comprehension.Chapter one: the summarization of MS Agent Technology and RE, it has introduced the characteristics of MS Agent user interface as well as some important functional components. The Agent Characters provided by MS Agent not only have some amusing actions, but also can communicate with users through sound card and microphone, the interaction between the agent software developed with MS Agent and user is more closer to that of man to man. So RE is just a concrete application of MS Agent in the field of Education and teaching.Chapter two: the basic theory and constructional design of RE, it has discussed the connotations and characteristics of Multimedia and constructivism. Based on the theory of constructivism and MS Agent technology, RE emphasizes on the designof "situations", in which students can achieve the construction of some conception through practice. RE consists of welcome interface form, main interface form and help interface form, and the main interface form consists of the module of the loading of animation characters and the choosing of TTSMODE, the module of function setting and the module of listening comprehension practice.Chapter three: the loading of Agent Characters and the choosing of TTSMODE, it has expounded mainly the principle of TTS and the method of implementing TTS technology. Based on the introducing of some primary properties and methods of the MS Agent Object Module and Agent Object, and the description of the Language ID property and the TTSMODE ID property, this chapter has given the detailed methods and steps of the loading and displaying of Agent Characters, the show of Genie and Robby in the welcome form and the choosing of TTS MODE.Chapter four: the functional control of RE, it has discussed the significance of the setting of the speed of speech in English listening comprehension, and accomplished the function of controlling the volume and speed of TTS speech using the speech output control tag in MS Agent through concrete interface design and programming.
