Vocabulary acquisition is of critical importance in L2 learning. Scholars, teachers and educators involved in L2 learning have pursued researches into L2 vocabulary acquisition from different aspects, and made great contribution to vocabulary teaching. However, the research of vocabulary teaching and learning in middle schools is often neglected due to its difficulty. This paper tries to do some research on the topic. The author finds that Chinese beginners of English have difficulties in retaining word spelling, in linking word's form with proper meaning when they are learning non-morphological motivated words. The author tries to do a research in this aspect in order to help students overcome these difficulties. In this study, a hypothesis is proposed that. Connection has a significant effect on vocabulary acquisition. In order to obtain statistics needed, an experiment is conducted. The marked differences of the means between the experimental group and the control group in the two tests indicate that Connection has a significant effect on vocabulary acquisition, thus the hypothesis has proved me right. The results arc discussed and analyzed in four aspects; chunking and vocabulary acquisition, comprehensible input and vocabulary acquisition, meaningful learning and vocabulary acquisition, perception, code, retrieval and vocabulary acquisition. The author believes that the study is valuable and practical.
