The purpose of study: This subject belongs to the study of applied theories. In the early 1990s, women's triple jump used to be our advantageous item for the first world record of this item, recognized by the International Field Event Association, was set by Li Huirong, our Chinese sportswoman. However, with the passage of time Chinese women's triple jump was lagged far behind the world level in spite of its top position in Asia. To make preparations for 2004 and 2008 Olympic games, the Field Events Management Center of National Physics Bureau in 2002 listed women's triple jump among "the trickiest items of Olympics" and in order to upgrade it back into the world level, the Center has given pivotal support to it in the aspects of allowances, facilities, technical services and fund. This paper collects the relevant material of the present situation of women's triple jump in China from documents, data and investigation, makes quantitative and qualitative analyses through mathematical statistics and logical analysis, predicts the probable scores of the item in the near and mid-term future, and further presents the corresponding development strategies. The paper is to direct the development of women's triple jump in our country in a scientific way.1.Presently, the item is on the downward stage with a greater gap between it and the world excellent level. As the reasons are many-sided, the situation must be improved from both macro and micro aspects.2.Through the analysis of its present situation, the following problems have been discovered: the low level of the sportswomen, the small scale and uneven distribution of the professionals, the relative older age of inceptive training, the shortage of back-up force; the generally low educational level of more than half coaches; the nonstandard run-up technique and the loss of speed in the third jump; and generally speaking the later development of field event market, the imperfect competitive mechanism, the lack of good cycles between field event races and commercial operations.3.Here are stated the strategies:(1) Guidance: The center should coordinate its operating mechanism, managerial mechanism, strategic aims and training system; meanwhile, it should enhance racing mechanism, talents market, organization, institution and codes of behavior. It should set a concept of sustainable development taking into account the results and profits in the near and mid-term future as well as the prospective objectives. In addition, it should base itself on national improvement as well as introduction and cooperation.(2) Aims: The aim in the near future is to enter the first 8 in the 2008 Olympic games and to build a team of talents. The mid-term aim is to enter the first six in the 2012 Olympics and to catch the world level.(3) Policies: Aiming at its characteristics, we should choose material scientifically, cultivate more back-up talents, increase investment, prompt communication among coaches to change the tradition of "students follow teachers" and to improve their teaching abilities, establish sound allotting and incentive mechanism, popularize various kinds of women's triple jump races, and strengthen scientific training by elevating technical levels.
