This thesis aims at analyzing theoretically the importance of humanities education, searching and finding many effective ways and routes to tackle the existing problems and finally impulse the renewal and development of humanities education.Humanities education is the education to cultivate students' humanities quality, promote their humanities making. The purpose of universities' educating is not only to foster the college students with professional knowledge, but the highly- qualified graduates. By analyzing the concept both in China and the West, it can be obviously detected that no matter what the times is, it is the same in emphasizing students' spirit shaping. One of the key connotations of the university education ideal is the humanities education. Macroscopically, the function of humanities education is to train students' humanities quality and microscopically is the "human shaping" education program, detailed in promoting the harmonious development of students' abilities, bringing into active play the sense and will power etc. non-intellectual elements, and forming college students' sense of responsibilities and so on.Since the middle of 19th century, science education has been advancing without any reversing, taking the place of humanities education and predominating the college and university education. Humanities education in our universities also faces the decline. There are both historical and practical reasons. The former includes the misunderstanding of the traditional culture and the effect of the Soviet-styled education. The unbalance between humanities and science education, negative impact of the market economy, simplicity of the humanities education and the ideology the latter.To renew humanities education and reconstruct the education concept, firstly the university humanities education should be focused on and several relations be dealt well with, humanities educating and market economy, science teaching and humanities educating,humanities educating and profession training and etc. At least, the following aspects are to be included, sense and will power educating, sense of responsibility educating, ethic and morality fostering, ideal training, philosophy and aesthetics education and so on. Secondly, other routes and ways should be adapted such as reforming the education system and teaching methods, perfecting courses system, creating good humanity situation and improving teachers' humanity quality. Last, during the processes of humanities educating, our traditional education especially the beneficial facets in Confucian education is to be used for reference, for example, taking morality first as the education guideline, different teaching methods adopted for different students and ritual and music edified as the teaching methods. Nowadays, the reformation of the humanities education in western universities especially in the universities of the United States, the Great Britain and Japan etc. provides beneficial inspiration for us. In the course of humanities educating, we should adopt the beneficial perspectives both national and international.
