For a long time, the key problem of ESL teaching of the reading in Senior High School in China is that the teaching activities are based on learning language, using the combinative method of intensive reading and doing most exam papers imitatively; for preparing examinations, teachers focus on selecting exam items, neglecting the students' ability training of all-round application of the language, Standards of New National English Curricula published by the state Education Department, put forward much higher standards and requirements on English teaching in Senior High School, setting "English teaching objectives during the elementary education stage are: based on developing students' language skills, language knowledge , emotional attitude , learning strategy and culture consciousness, to train their all-round application of the language." So traditional teaching of reading skill doesn't fit in with the needs of the new standards. This paper, based on psycholinguistics, current English teaching in Senior High School and Standards of New National English Curricula, starting with the psychological analysis on teaching of reading skill, puts forward an idea that reading itself is the process of cognition and speech communication, at the same time it is also the much more complicated physiological, psychological process. Thus, readers have to use reading skills which are learned gradually to understand the authors' intention expressed by the language symbols, and make the symbols be in the proper sense, so as to communicate with the authors. In the reading process, the readers' understanding is undertaking as some known information is continually connected with the new information from the reading text. Reading, in foreign language teaching, is not only the interactive process between readers and text, but also the communicative process among readers. Thus interactive reading activities should be promoted in teaching of the reading to train students' ability of all-round application of the language efficiently.
