Family, as a socialized organization, plays an irreplaceable role in human growth, particularly in the period of elementary school. Then, how does family influence primary school students' sport involvement and what is the mechanism for that? The current thesis tries to research how family affects primary students' sports involvement from sociological and psychological perspective. According to the principle of stratifying and sampling, the author investigated the upper-grade primary school students and their parents in urban area of Changchun using the method of questionnaire. The total number of questionnaire distributed is 1800, among which 900 are for students. The main methods adopted are references, questionnaires, interviews and statistics. The following is the results: 1. There is a distinction between male and female in terms of direct sport involvement level (degree of direct involvement) and indirect sport involvement level (degree of concern with sports). The distinction in direct sports involvement level is more significant and what's more, male has reflected this point more evidently. 2. The education background of parents affects each level of sports involvement very little except in the level of sports cognition (the value towards sports); and there is no evident influence in terms of parents' occupation. 3. Family income not only affects the degree of students' direct sport involvement but also the level of sports item. 4. Parent' sports experience, that is, athletic level as a skill and experience, affects the following aspects significantly such as degree of students' enjoyments of sports, direct sports involvement, and indirect sports involvement as well. 5. Parents' present sport participation have a great influence on students sports cognition, direct sports involvement, and indirect sports involvement, among which direct and indirect participation are influenced stronger. Parents' sports involvement can serve as a predicting factor of their children's sports participation. 6. There is no significant influence of parents' inderect sport involvement in every aspect of students' sports participation, which shows that parents' sports involvement alone may not bring into play and possibly it should work together with some other factors as sports behavior and attitude. 7. Parents' attitude towards students' sports involvement affects students' sport involvement in every aspect significantly, particularly in direct and indirect participation. Supports and encouragements from parents including affective support, behavioral supportâ…² and instrument support can not only affect children's sports behavior but also students' affective and cognitive reaction. Finally, the current thesis tries to provide some suggestions on how family stimulates students' sport involvement.
