The curriculum development is an important approach to the recent curriculum reform in American and is made a crucial part of curriculum management. It includes the planning, designing and implementing of a curriculum program. Therefore, it is necessary to emphasize evaluations during the stages of planning and designing, implementing for consecutive improvement in the quality of a curriculum. In this sense, curriculum development is actually a process of evaluating and improving a curriculum program. However, the stress of evaluation in the basic education has long been laid on the teachers and students but not on the curriculum program. Thus, the subject arises from the existing problem.This thesis consists of seven parts:The first part is the reason and meanings of choosing the title, and method of studying. Research on the Evaluation of Curriculum Program of American Elementary Education, selecting this research topic, mainly having the following reasons: valid propulsion of American national course reformation need to have the new evaluation theories conduct and actions; American originally possessed some required courses of each state and electives need the new evaluation theories to carry. Moreover an aspect is the successful experience that the new course reformation of Chinese foundation education needs to be absorbed and draw lessons from the international education reform and make progress.The second part is the definition of the curriculum program. The course evaluation has five parts: purpose target, research corpus, study corpus, course composition and circulating of the result etc. the five greatest parts constitute. The course project evaluation should be the course developer, for the sake of the body and carry out course intention and guide the course fulfillment, carry out and evaluate the programming and the design of etc.The third part is to clarify the history of program valuation and introduce several comparatively effective evaluation models, from which the key ideas and elements inherent in program evaluation can be derived. Furthermore, A set of reasonable and effective criteria for program evaluation will also be establishedthrough literature analysis. Overall, the first part forms the theoretic foundation for the thesis.The fourth part begins with differentiating curriculum programs to define the connotation and extension of a curriculum program. It comes to analyze characters of the major elements of a curriculum program and provide an evaluation model in which varied kinds of sublets evaluate and improve the curriculum program.The fifth part focuses on the program evaluation in practice. Based on the evaluation model of curriculum program, it's discussed that how different evaluators will effectively evaluate curriculum program pre, mid and post—implementation. In addition, some strategies, ways, tools as well as some evaluation cases are introduced.The sixth part is to discuss the requisites for the effective evaluation of curriculum program, with a view to making it clear that the evaluation for the curriculum program is not only a theoretic issue but also an issue of practice. The effective implementation of curriculum program evaluation therefore needs the supports in terms of organization, system and staff.The seventh part is problem, counter plan and outlook. The course project evaluation is a newly arisen course business in school, but exposes a few problems in practice process, needing to educate the further improvement of departments, schools and teachers. And it gives some suggestions to evaluation of curriculum program of Chinese elementary education.
