According to the theory of social stratification and differentiation, taking Chinese characteristics as background, this thesis is mainly concerned with the connection between intermediate strata and social development on the basis of understanding of social development in Beijing rural area. The meaning of the intermediate strata in the theme is different from common point, in a way,it is the people who have better condition in economic. The rural area of Beijing, as a subject we are going to discuss in the following, which has not only its own identity but also the common point existing in the process of development. After making an investigation on this subject on the spot, we can give a clear demarcation on the notion intermediate strata. Combing with the discussion on the problems of present conditions and social functions, this thesis will explain and analyze these situations, including how the intermediate strata connect with state and policy of our country and the relations among social stability, the development of productive force and occupation division. The growth of intermediate strata definitely makes a great push on the process of modernism in our country. However intermediate strata itself is not the prerequisite factor in the development of modern society .or we can say, there is no necessary connection between the two we mentioned above, at the same time we find that the development of intermediate strata is no correspondence with the theory of socialism and level of social productivity, and what is more, it does not exert it self completely in realistic society. As for this, the thesis will give a general analysis and evaluation in a dialectic and objective way.
