The writer holds the opinion that an important access to realizing the teaching purpose of Chinese is achieved by aesthetic appreciation via classical literature. The thesis clarifies the significance and features of aesthetic appreciation of Chinese teaching in middle schools by utilizing the basic theoretical knowledge of aesthetics, acceptance aesthetics, aesthetic appreciation and literature appreciation, which is illustrated by Zhu Ziqing's essays. It reveals the connotation of aesthetic appreciation function, that is, to instruct students to perceive beauty, comprehend beauty, appreciate beauty and evaluate beauty, to cultivate sentiment and to form correct aesthetic appreciation opinion or view and noble aesthetic appreciation taste and ideal. The thesis points out that the aesthetic appreciation function of classical literature lies in giving prominence to aesthetic features and digging out its moral aesthetics and art aesthetic appreciation connotation, which refers to enforcing the characteristic education function of Chinese teaching in the course of beauty experience. The thesis also probes into the executive approaches of aesthetic appreciation function, which include seizing art figure, creating teaching situation, humanistic situation and guiding students to make researches on classical literature. The writer summarizes the processes and approaches of improving students' aesthetic appreciation ability by Chinese teaching in senior middle schools in terms of the new curriculum criteria.
