Reading and learning vocabulary has long been my interest of study in my high school English teaching career. It is known that vocabulary is a key and important part to high school English learning. Vocabulary and reading are closely related, vocabulary is the basis of reading.A majority of researchers and teachers agree that vocabulary learned through reading account for a large proportion of anyone's vocabulary size.However, vocabulary learning should apply many effective ways, there are many factors that influence vocabulary learning through reading and there are also many limitations to it. Learners need to use this strategy according to their own individual situations.So how to combine reading with learning vocabulary successfully, that is, learning vocabulary and improving reading at the same time? The present paper is a tentative study of English vocabulary learning through reading.Teaching strategies of vocabulary learning for high school English teachers is necessary. At the same time, students need to know some basic knowledge for learning vocabulary through reading, such as the basic vocabulary size, simple grammar knowledge, and strategic knowledge.Learning vocabulary through reading is a very effective way to improve English. Of course, there are many questions that are waiting for answers. But we need to be sure that vocabulary is important for learning a language and reading is an efficient method of enlarging our vocabulary. Every English learner can simply have a body of vocabulary as long as he wishes and works hard at it.Although this thesis lacks data from my own first-hand experiments, I hope that it can arouse more high school English teachers' interest in the study of vocabulary learning through reading, and that more and better reading materials for English learners at different levels will be prepared, so that students will feel it enjoyable to learn vocabulary and the overall efficiency in high school English language learning and teaching will be improved.
