With the further study on language learning and teaching, people have got a better understanding between language learning and learning strategy. It has been widely recognized that English learning will not reach its desired goal without cultivation of good learning attitude and learning strategy. Thus, cultivating the students' learning strategy has been clearly included in THE NATIONAL ENGLISH CURRICULUM STANDARD FOR GENERAL MIDDLE SCHOOL, and teaching students the right way to learn, helping them develop their own effective learning strategies and learning effect is one of the most important missions and objectives for all language teachers.This paper firstly brings about the theoretic introduction of learning strategy and some successful experiments of learning strategy train at home and abroad, showing the basis of the study, which broadly fall into the following categories: the definition of learning strategegies, the difference between learning strategies and other concepts on learning, the further clarification of language learning strategies and its categories, and studies on training language learning strategies. Secondly, taking Shanghai An'ting Middle School as a random sample, we make a practical survey on English learning strategy of general high school students, and it indicates that the application of learning strategy in English learning is extremely poor and limited, especially, the very low frequency use of metacognitive, affective and communicative strategies are surprising. So cultivation of learning strategy is very important and necessary for senior students. Next, we put learning strategy into practice - using relevant learning strategy to resolve English exercise on Cloze Test. By collecting and analyzing the data after period of a seventeen-week experiment, we draw a conclusion that cultivation of learning strategy helps students to achieve relevent English score as well as their own independent learning ability. Based on the above conclusion, the paper at last puts forward some practical and effective suggestions on English teaching conceptions and learning renovation.Despite the careful and longstanding study on this subject, this paper is not satisfactory, so there're some unresolved points that still need to be further researched, such as how to definite learning strategy on English Cloze Test, to what extent it has correlation with English learning level , how it affects on language learning of the students who have diffrient level of learning ability and so on.We hope this paper will be of some help to the upcoming researchers, and it will do little to benefit English teaching and learning, textbook compiling and curriculum design as well.
