The reading assessment is very important and hard in primary Chinese teaching. Thereare many problems to be solved. Taking the theory of criterion-referenced assessment as thetheory base, the researcher explores the process of criterion-referenced assessment of Chinesereading by twice attempts in primary school. The research is very useful for improvingstudents reading ability and instruction by teacher in primary school.The paper is divided into three parts::Part 1 expounds the reason how this research comes into being and what the mostimportant problems are. Then it introduces the research method and object.Part 2 is about the theory of criterion-referenced assessment. Include its history, concept,feature, function and the range of the theory.Part 3 is the main part. Its shows the process of criterion-referenced assessment ofChinese reading develops in primary school. There are five steps: come into the research,develop a criterion-referenced assessment on a unit with a teacher in primary school,examination and the second development, conclusion and reflection.
