Text reading has long been the focus of linguistic research, psycholinguistic research and cognitive linguistic research. It has been commonly held that reading is crucial in improving learners' comprehensive language ability. Since the birth of discourse analysis theory, many experts and scholars have written articles to analyze and study it. This provides complete theoretical basis for English teaching, but there are few people applying discourse analysis theory to NMET reading comprehension. Based on this, the present author sets out to make a study on how to apply discourse analysis theory to reading comprehension test and reading teaching, seeks to find ways to combine the two in practice, and attempts to explore effective ways to improve students' reading comprehension ability.To begin with, the writer analyzes the reading comprehension process and levels, states the definition and main features of text, then reviews the historic background and main contents. After that, the writer sums up the focus and difficulties in reading comprehension according to the requirements and features in NMET reading comprehension. And in the following chapter, the writer with examples demonstrates the way of applying discourse analysis theory to solve the reading comprehensive problems. In the end, the writer points out this theory's instructive function in senior English reading teaching.
