Reading is an extremely important way to master linguistic knowledge and acquire cultural knowledge. For a long time, the traditional English reading teaching, which only focuses on accumulation of vocabulary, analysis of sentence structure and explanation of grammar knowledge, has extraordinary influence on English text teaching. The same is true of English text teaching in senior school. As a consequence, the reading comprehension of the students in senior high school is not really improved. Therefore, English reading teaching must be reformed. In order to discuss the best way of reading teaching, the author applies the theory of discourse analysis to guiding reading teaching and helps students to improve their reading comprehension.In this research, first of all, the author analyzed the present situation of English reading teaching in senior high school. The paper combines the actual situation in senior high school to explore how to use the theory of discourse analysis in reading teaching, which intends to test the importance of discourse analysis in reading teaching. The paper has explained the definition, theory basis and main content.In the experiment design, the author put forward the hypothesis as follows:In the process of reading teaching, applying the theory of English discourse analysis to reading teaching can help senior high school students to understand texts and contribute to developing their reading comprehension. The select subjects are senior high school students from Weishanlu Middle school in Tianjin. The whole program lasts a term. This experiment adopts the four steps of English reading teaching based on the theory of discourse analysis. In the process of reading teaching, the author helps students analyze texts from macro discourse analysis and micro discourse analysis. It aims to introduce the effect of reading teaching based on discourse analysis theory. Then the author chose a text from students’ book as a sample to show how to apply the theory of discourse analysis to reading teaching. What’s more, SPSS17.0was employed for statistic analysis, including obtaining descriptive statistics and correlations.Finally, the paper drew the conclusion that the application of discourse analysis theory to reading teaching in senior high school can improve the students reading comprehension and enhance students’ reading strategy.
