The application of computer and Internet technology in English teaching, esp. in English reading teaching, has attracted much attention in the education circle. The present study is just adapting to the new teaching notion of Computer-Assisted Instruction, attempting network-assisted English reading teaching in secondary specialized school.Compared with the traditional reading teaching method, network-assisted English reading teaching has many advantages, such as: abundant teaching resources, timely feedback, without limitation of time and space. The quality of reading teaching will be improved efficiently if the advantages are made full use of in the reading instruction. The thesis analyzes the disadvantages of traditional teaching method, expounds the importance of reading teaching, puts forward the new hypothesis of network-assisted English reading teaching, which is based on Constructivism. Theories such as Constructivism, Schema, Task-Based Instruction are introduced in the thesis, and how to carry out these theories in the process of teaching is related too. In the experimental part, the author introduces the experimental subjects, the experimental methods, the experimental process, data collection and analysis in detail, expounds the class mode of the experimental class, explains the process of network-assisted reading teaching and designs the learning tasks, emphasizes what should be paid attention to in the process of network-assisted reading teaching. In the experimental part, two questionnaires and two tests are employed to test and verify the efficiency of network-assisted reading teaching.
