A Survey And Research On Chinese 5th,6th And 7th Students

Through questionnaires and interviews, this research investigated the actuality of the 5th, 6th and 7th students' Number Sense. In the research, the three grades students' grade difference, the aspects which ones are the best and the worst to be performed, gender difference, the concrete performance on Number Sense and the features of Number Sense as well as the correlation between Number Sense and the students' interest in Mathematics and Mathematics achievements were analyzed.The research discovered that most students are used to solve Mathematics problems through exact calculate and the percentage of the students who use Number Sense is very low. Meanwhile, the following findings were found:(1) Integrally speaking, the students' Number Sense increased as students progressed through the grades but there was no appreciable difference the grades vis-a-vis Number Sense. As to the 5 aspects, there are appreciable difference between 7th students and 5th & 6th students. As for 5th and 6th students, there is appreciable difference in the other 4 aspects except applying benchmarks.(2) Comparing the 5 aspects of Number Sense, all students performed best in understanding the numbers meanings and worst in applying benchmarksAnd what's more,5th students performed best in understanding the numbers meanings and worst in applying benchmarks & understanding the relations of numbers; 6th students performed best in understanding the numbers meanings and worst in applying benchmarks; 7th students made progresses in every aspects and performed best in understanding the numbers meanings and the relative effect if operations on numbers and worst in applying benchmarks.(3) In the general, to 5th and 6th students, there was no appreciable gender difference while there was appreciable gender difference between Male and Female 7th students and the male were better than the female. As to the concrete 5 aspcets, to 6th and 7th students,there was no appreciable gender difference while to 5th students, there was appreciable gender difference and the female were better than the male.(4) From the students' performance in 5 aspects —understanding the numbers meaning, understanding the relations of numbers, using benchmarks appropriately, understanding the relative effect if operations on numbers and developing different strategies appropriately and assessing the reasonableness of an answer, most students were inclined to be procedure understanding and good at mechanical computation, that is...
