The world is becoming a global village and English is becoming a more and more important international language. From 2001, English has become a required course in elementary schools in China. Accompanying the speeding of course-reform, English teaching in elementary schools is aimed at arousing children's interests in learning English, and at the same time laying a good foundation for their further study in middle schools. Helping students learn how to learn is more important than only teaching them the language. New teaching methods should be introduced to help teachers improve both the quality and the efficiency of their teaching. Teachers will continue to need access to a wide range of information to help students succeed, including information about English. We should continually develop and discover good teaching methods from valuable educational theories, researches, and teaching practice. However, both teaching and learning of English in elementary schools have various difficulties and problems. Some of the children are afraid of learning English because they don't know how to learn English and how to learn English well. Particularly, they have great difficulty in learning the correct pronunciation of English words and memorizing their spellings. In this study, I will try to experiment with a new way to help students deal with English words: the phonetic system of the English language.There is now strong evidence that for alphabetic languages, children's phonemic awareness to the speech sound structure of spoken words is important in learning to read.
