The conceptualization of "Yuwen", the most important key word in Yuwen curriculum, influences the decision of Yuwen teaching aim and task, the choice of contents and methods for Yuwen teaching, which should also be the basic law obeyed by compiling Yuwen texts. Yuwen conception leads to corresponding views on Yuwen curriculum, Yuwen teaching and Yuwen texts. Yuwen conceptualization is the first under-solving problem in Yuwen theoretical research and teaching practice.But now it is still an under-solving problem, which is not because of lack of answers, on the contrary, there are too many, it's unable to decide which one is right. This paper first described the derivation of "Yuwen", explanations by some researchers, and made some rudimental comparison and appraisal from vertical and horizontal latitudes and two aspects of a common word in Yuwen and a curriculum name "Yuwen". As a common word in Yuwen, "Yuwen" has a lot of meanings, such as "language and characters", "colloquial and classical Yuwen", "written words or articles", and "verbal diction works and written diction works", etc. While as a curriculum name, "Yuwen" has more than ten meanings, such as "Yuwen is a language", "Yuwen is diction", "Yuwen is language and characters", "Yuwen is language and literature", "Yuwen is language and articles", "Yuwen is language and culture", "Yuwen is written words", "Yuwen is verbal and written words", "Yuwen is a culture expressed by language", and "Yuwen is a language and characters, literature, articles and culture ", etc.This paper demonstrated the point of view that Yuwen curriculum is the combination of mother tongue education and literature education from tracing back why Yuwen curriculum was set up in elementary education. But this combination is not interweaving, mixed, and confused, both mother tongue education and literature education have their own independence. Because mother tongue education and literature education are developing in different ways, and they have different characters, aims, tasks and knowledge systems. These two should not be confused, and we must change the wrong way to teach them together. No matter whether Yuwen curriculum can be divided into language course and literature course, or one curriculum and two textbooks, or one curriculum, one textbook and two clues, Yuwen teachers must clearly realized this point.As the foundation of elementary education, macroscopicaliy, mother tongue education ought to emphasize the importance of understanding and applying the knowledge and skills of mother tongue for the development of primary and middle school...
