This paper discusses the contradictive situation between the importance of listening comprehension in English teaching and learning in senior high school and students'poor ability of listening comprehension. I am trying to demonstrate that background knowledge is a significant factor that influences senior high school students'ability of listening comprehension by quoting from many linguists and try to prove the hypothesis in the forms of questionnaires and tests. After the hypothesis was proved, I took some measures to train the students in order to improve their ability of listening comprehension. Again I try to test the validity of background knowledge training by questionnaires and tests. Through data analysis, it is proved that background knowledge training is helpful to improve students'ability of listening comprehension.
