Language input is vital to foreign language teaching. However, English teaching in middle schools in China lacks natural environment for language acquisition. Language input depends more on classroom teaching and students' wide and effective reading. A serious problem of middle school English teaching is its low efficiency. Some statistical analysis of the NMET English test shows that the score of Reading Comprehension is among the lowest. Problems may exist in English reading of middle school students.According to cognitive theory, language comprehension is generally viewed as active and complex processes in which individuals construct meaning from written information. The process of comprehension is divided into three interrelated sub-processes: perceptual processing, parsing, and utilization. Individuals make use of both real world knowledge and linguistic knowledge to identify the meaning of propositions. At each of the stages, complex processing and strategic analysis takes place that assists the individual in detecting or inferring meanings and in relating the information to existing knowledge.Based on the above, researches on reading strategies should be done according to...
