The secondary school stage is the critical period of people's development of self-concept.James who is the first person to study the self-concept has defined and classified the self-concept. Subsequent psychologists Rogers, Shavelson, Burns, Song and Hattle have studied the structure of the self-concept from the static aspect. Mead, koley,Ersenberg and Allport has been committed to the dynamic study of the significance of the social interaction to the self-concept. In the study of self-concept ,people found that ,the development of the children's self-concept has the curve upward trend and it has the characteristics of general to division. In specific areas of children's self-concept, It demonstrated gender differences.Considering the research of the predecessors, in the light of reality, we have decided to conduct the study from three aspects: to explore the development characteristics of secondary students' self-concept; to explore the relationship between the concept of self-discipline; to explore the relationship of the concept of self-discipline and discipline achievement. These studies will help student to know themselves correctly, guide educators to help students to develop a healthy self-concept, promote high physical and mental health.we used the self -description questionnaire II of Marsh to investigate the 142 students, the results show that:1. In the aspect of self-concept development, secondary student's self-concept has the significant grade difference; the first is the lowest point of the self-concept's development; Meanwhile, their self-concept has the significant difference in the gender.2. In the relationship between the concepts of self-discipline, self-concept in Chinese and English has remarkable relation. Mathematical self-concept, with Chinese and English self-concept is negatively related, but not significant. The relationship between mathematical and English self-concept is significantly different: it is positively related in boys, but negatively related in girls.3.In the relationship of academic results and concept of self-discipline, It is highly related among Chinese performance, mathematical and English performance; The relationship is very significant; It has the significant relationship between Chinese self-concept and English self-concept, The mathematical self-concept with the Chinese and English self-concept is negatively related, but the relation is not significant; The Chinese results and English self-concept as well as math results and Chinese self-concept ,are all positively related, Chinese results ,English results with the math self-concept are negatively related ,but not dramatic. The math results with the Chinese, English self-concept are also negatively related and are also not dramatic. This relationship between academic results and academic self-concept is in accordance with the Internal and external reference model made by marsh. The internal and external reference model means that when the students compare their academic achievement, they will use the two processes: internal comparing process and external comparing process. Internal comparing process means the students will compare their discipline which they are good at with the discipline that they are not good at . Then people will get a lower concept on their discipline that they are not good at. That means the results of one discipline will get negative interaction to the other concept of self-discipline which is not in accordance with it. External comparison means students usually compare their results with other people, when their results are better than others'. They will feel well and have high confidence.
