This MA thesis, based on a cognitive perspective develop in reading teaching researching, reports an empirical study into the effect of Task-based Background Knowledge Presentation (TBBKP) on reading comprehension in senior middle school, which attempts to clarify; 1) whether Tasked-based BK presentation is more effects than by teacher. 2) To what extent does background knowledge influence students' reading comprehension. The thesis starts to review the issue of the development history of BK and reading-task. The emphasis is laid on that TBBK can be borrowed in the study of reading teaching issues and lead to changes in reading.According to schema theory, a text only provides direction for listeners or readers as to how they should retrieve or construct meaning form their own, previously acquired knowledge, this previously acquired knowledge is called the reader's BK. Introducing BK in reading teaching is one of the major change, which is closely related to insight reading teaching research. On the basis of the finding of psycholinguistics and cognitive science, Schema theory research has shown the importance of BK. Background of providing actives or strategies to assist students with ways to activate their prior knowledge base by building readers' BK. In recent years, the BK is presented by teacher' narrate. In the interactive strategy, teachers help students activate their prior knowledge through an extended discussion of what students already know about the topic of an upcoming text. Teachers may present additional important information needed for comprehension, but the focus of the strategy is group discussion rather than a teacher presentation of necessary information. In addition, the teachers make explicit links for students between their existing knowledge and important information presented in the text.What's more, the BK of students is different, and studies show that many students in China like to communicate with classmates or friends instead of teachers. How to present BK to students still remains a big problem on the presenting by teachers. This is due to the gap of information existing among students. The article offers some practical suggestions about affective BK presentation, Task-based BK presentation, which is important factor in English reading teaching for the students in senior school.
