Research On Accountability In American Education

People used to believe that insufficient investment is main reason of the poor quality of education, then all the governments invest more money in education, so does American federal government, but the result is not as good as predicted. Then the accountability was introduced into education system and viewed as the efficient tool to improve the quality of education. Account is the derivation of accountability, and it mainly means that the accountant should be responsible for his accounts. The accountability first appears in education field in 1970, the advocates thought it could incent all the participator of education system to work harder than before, and then the quality of education would be improved. American researchers have studied continuously the accountability and modified it for nearly 40 years, now the education accountability system works well and makes some progresses. All the countries show strong interest in AAE (Accountability in American Education) and set about to establish native education accountability, such as England, Germany, Japan and Taiwan province etc. However researchers in our country have not attached importance to this topic, relative articles are very superficial, also only a few in number. Most of these articles refer to Taiwan's research findings. With the fast development of administration accountability in recent years in our country, more and more people advocate establishing education accountability, so we must pay more attention to this topic and begin to discuss how to do it very well.This article is divided into five chapters, as the fallowings:Chapter 1 is the preface of the thesis. The motivation, the meanings and the methods of this research will be presented. The summarizations of former research findings and the discrimination between accountability and other words, such as performance, responsibility etc, will be introduced too.Chapter 2 mainly describes the development progress of AAE.
