Phonetic study plays an essential role in language teaching and learning. This study is conducted with the theoretical ground of phonetics, comparative phonetic study, bilingualism and language pedagogy. The author of this paper aims to make a comparative study between the Jingpo language and the English language. The emphasis of her study is on phonetic comparison of these two languages. The author is herself a member of the Jingpo nationality. In this paper, the author lays down good theoretical ground to carry out her research. She started her research with seeking the significance of the phonetic study. And then she pointed out the importance of minority language maintenance in globalization. A brief introduction of the comparative phonetic study is given in her paper to enable her to conduct such a research. However comparative phonetic study is only one of the purposes of the author's research, with the findings of her research, the author intends to apply the findings to her English teaching and make her findings serve other English teachers of the Jingpo communities as well. Such kind of study as to make phonetic comparison between the Jingpo language and the English language has never been carried out before the author of this paper, so it is of great value to do it.
