With the progress and development of the society, people's understanding of health idea is becoming more complete, and health becomes the first largest wealth in life. The Decision of Deepening the Educational Reform and Promoting Quality-oriented Education, which was made by CPC Central State Department on June 13th, 1999, pointed out that school education should build up the health-first guideline, strengthen the work of physical education. Paying attention to the students' health in our country has become the main aim of curriculum reforms in school sports. In august 2002, the Ministry of Education issued the Outline on National Sports Course Teaching of University and College. It is said in the 7th item that:" In order to realize the goal of sports course, we should organically combine the classroom instruction with after class, outside school sport activity, and school and society should get in touch with each other closely. We should bring the after class sport, outside school activity and sports training into PE course. It also said in the 20th item that exploiting and making use of all kinds of course resources according to local conditions is an important approach. We can hold the teaching and training courses of Outside Living and Survival Training and exploit the natural environment resources by making full use of air, sunlight, water, river, lake, sea, sand beach, field, forest, mountainous region, prairie, snowfield, wastelands and so on. According to certain documentary's spirit of the Ministry of Education, this paper wants to demonstrate that Outside Living and Survival Training Course not only has positive influence on university student's health, but also is the reformation and supplement of traditional sports course. it provides the theory reference for the ordinary university's educational reform and the popularization of opening Outside Living and Survival Training Course.This research adopts natural cut-and-try method. And the test samples are selected at random among the 2004-undergraduate different classes of public and special in East China Normal University: two basketball classes (one is for girls and the other for boys), one tennis class (the boys and girls mix), two experimental outward survival classes. The total number of the students is 167 and they are divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group .Every experimental 1,In experimental group, three sebum indices had a significant improvement, while they were changed little in the control group. It shows that Outside Living & Survival Training is better at improving subcutaneous fat than the traditional sports projects.2, All the test indices at the aspect of physical ability (physique) of the students in both the experimental group and the control group are improved. But all the test indices of the experimental group are much better than those of the control group: boys had a significant difference at 1000 m running and standing long jump, and girls had a significant and very significant difference at vital capacity, 50m running, standing long jump and curling up test. It shows that outward survival course not only can achieve the function of strengthening the students' physique through physical and skill practice, like the traditional sports project, but also can get a wider range of improvement than the traditional sports projects.3,All the test indices of health self-test in both the experimental group and the control group are improved. But the general appraisal about health and physiological health of the experimental group are much better than those of the control group. The experimental group achieved a significant and very significant difference at the aspect of physiological health, psychological health, social health, health self-test and the health general appraisal. It shows that Outside Living and Survival Training is good for the health of university students.4,The improvement of the health self-test indexes in the experimental group is much more than the control group. And the health self-test indexes of the experimental group were also much better than before the test and achieved a significant difference. It shows that the experimental group greatly increased their confidence for their own health and their self-evaluation was higher after they had experienced the hardness and challenges in Outside Living and Survival Training.
