Teachers' professional development is now a hot issue that both domestic and international educational researchers discuss. The First International Teacher Education Forum and the Second International Teacher Education Forum were held in October 2005 and October 2006 respectively in East China Normal University, Shanghai. In the two forums, the scholars, teachers and researchers talked about almost every aspects of teachers' professional development. The importance of English which is the key subject in the school of our country forces us to pay more attention to the study of professional development of English teachers, especially that of English novice teachers.The final paper, taking Ganxian Middle School in Jiangxi Province as an example, introduces and analyses the measures that the school took for strengthening the knowledge base of senior high school English novice teachers' professional development, the achievements that these measures made, and the problems that occurred. In the final paper, I put up forward some suggestions according to the actual situations of Ganxian Middle School, hoping these suggestions help the growth of the English novice teachers in this school, improve the English teaching quality of the school, and provide good reference for English novice teachers in other middle schools.The final paper consists of five parts:The first chapter is the introduction which mainly discusses the study meaning, the definitions of relevant concepts, the study methods, and the organization of the final paper.Chapter 2 introduces the relevant theories of English teachers' professional development, and then explores the differences between English novice teachers and English expert teachers as well as the elements of knowledge base of senior high school English novice teachers' professional development.Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 are the key parts of the study. Based on the study of the former two chapters, Chapter 3, taking Ganxian Middle School in Jiangxi Province as an example, introduces and analyses the measures that the school took for strengthening the knowledge base of senior high school English novice teachers' professional development, the achievements that these measures made, and the problems that occurred.Chapter 4 comes up with seven measures taken by both the school leaders and the novice English teachers themselves to better strengthen the knowledge base of senior high school English novice teachers' professional development according to the actual situations of Ganxian Middle School.The last chapter sums up the whole paper and points out the limitations of the study.
