China's national women's volleyball team, since its reshuffle in 1976, defeating Japan and obtruding beyond Asia, had the capability to win the world championship as early as in 1980. However the invasion of Russia into Afghanistan cancelled the Olympic games and made the"five championships in a row". Yet afterwards several defeats stuck China's national women's volleyball team, namely, in 1988 seoul Olympic games in Barcelona Olympic games and in 1994 World Tournament. What contribute to the downslide, the influence of the large environment , the training and guide of the coaches , the retire effect or other reasons? The national physical committee's meeting to re-glorify China's national women's volleyball team, the league match reform from 1996 to 1997 and Lang Ping's reenlist helped China's national women's volleyball team run out of crisis. Unfortunately, China's national women's volleyball team fell to number five with the"free player"rule implemented by the International volleyball association at the beginning of the professional volleyball league match in 1999. In 2003 and 2004 China's national women's volleyball team won the first title, while in the 2006 World championship it ended in number five with faint predominance and luck. What are the reasons behind China's national women's volleyball team's success and failure in these stages and what methods should be adopted to regulate it in the future? This study, using the method of literature material, expert interview, statistics and logic analysis, explores the selection and renovation of the players, the team-forming strategy and coaching ability of the coaches and the changing situation of different teams participating in matches. The result shows that the reasons for the success of China's national women's volleyball team are as follows: its correct mastery of the development law of volleyball sports and bringing into full play the whole-nation system and the implementation of the leading strategy, selecting talents according to the Olympic game cycle and the fixed tactics, willpower and strict management and training. The contributing factors for its defeat lies in the influence of the market economy, the dramatic cut-off the players, the decrease of actual-combat and the lack of back-up talents due to the influence of retire system and employment concept. While in the match implementation system, the resplendence of"five championship in a row"resulted in the frequent change of coaches and the great pressure on managers, coaches and players. Many chances to win the championship are lost because of the coaches'failure to use long-term team forming strategy to implement their ideas into the matches, their lack of international matches and the authority of management.During 1989-1991 and 1995-1998 when Cuba was the solely number one and other European and American teams rose up fast, female coaches basically could serve a Olympic circle to break in the team with fixed tactics and raise tacit agreement. Although it failed to win the champion, it gave full play to its ability under the circumstance at that time. From 1999-2000, the reform of volleyball tournament didn't change the lagging situation, and the level of China's national women's volleyball team slide again because Lang Ping's illness forced her to resign. During 2001-2004, China's national women's volleyball team soared again thanks to a more relaxed circumstance, a leading consciousness of the coaches'selecting of talents and forming teams, the renovation of tactics, the strengthening of the aggressiveness in inning and psychological training, strict management and the super coaching art. During the period from 2005-08, China's national women's volleyball team failed to consider the problem of the players'illness and injury and to implement stronger old-new players update. Conk is the law for China's national women's volleyball team's development and no team can win all the time. Topping the agenda for China's national women's volleyball team to win the world women's champion is skills, strength and tacit agreement and fast changing tactics. To keep the leading position in the world, China's national women's volleyball team must adopt leading strategy, the continuity of coaches, ability and authority of coaching, interest indifference, long vision and quick decision. The management staff should strengthen the market performance, and publicize and promote volleyball sports. China's national women's volleyball team's fast changing characteristic needs more time for breaking-in training, and the local team should cooperate with national team's training to provide a sounding environment for the development of China's national women's volleyball team.
