To a certain degree, development of English school-based curriculum of the secondary vocational school reflects the need of developing China's politics, economy and education. It is helpful to cultivate the student's individual characters and to prompt English teachers to master knowledge of a special curriculum. It can also help the school develop its unique advantages and the students obtain employment. At present, developing the school-based curriculum is facing a good opportunity. And it proves that it is significant to promote school-based curriculum development so that the secondary vocational school may be able to deepen its teaching and learning reform, and to adapt itself to social changes. In a word, it may stand as a breakthrough in the vocational education. As the national English curriculum can't satisfy the vocational education, promoting the English school-based curriculum is both important and necessary.This thesis gives a survey about the development of the English school-based curriculum in China's secondary vocational school, analyzes the present-day situation as well as the existing problems. Also the author has studied theories of school-based curriculum development both at home and abroad as well as their major patterns and developing principles. Taking Guilin Vocational Education Center as an example, the thesis puts forward some practical methods of developing the English school-based curriculum in the secondary vocational school. Its purpose is to make some contributions to the research and fulfillment of English school-based curriculum development in the secondary vocational school in China.The thesis consists of three parts. Part I introduces the background of the English curriculum reform in the secondary vocational school, pointing out the significance of English school-based curriculum development. Part II makes a study of theories of the school-based curriculum development at home and abroad. It introduces main features of the secondary vocational school as well as the types of courses and the developing principles. The thesis also conducts a survey about the development of the English school-based curriculum in Guilin. It takes Guilin Vocational Education Center as an example and puts forward a practical method of developing the school-based curriculum in the secondary vocational school. Part III draws a conclusion about the research.
