Twenty years ago, while'Communicative Approach'was being discussed heatedly in foreign countries, the policy of'reform and opening up to the outside world'was not being carried out in China. In those days, perhaps the ultimate goal of teaching and learning English was to be able to read or understand the original science and technology articles or literature books written in English. Therefore, when reading the brief history of English teaching and learning in senior middle school in China, I know, those approaches and methods, such as the Grammar-Translation Method, Five-Step Method and the Audio-lingual Method have played positive roles in the guidance to the English language teaching and learning in the past few decades. For instance, a large number of English translators and interpreters have been trained by means of these approaches. However, to some extent, in practice, almost each of these approaches has its own disadvantage; for example, the Grammar-Translation Method has focused on training of grammar and translation but not on spoken English. Consequently, after learning English for many years, students can only remember some mechanical pattern drills, grammatically correct but inappropriate sentences, they cannot use English to communicate with foreigner in real life or in authentic conversation.Since the 1970s, with Wilkins'Notional Syllabuses coming into being, Communicative Language Teaching has developed greatly. Today, with the development of the Economical Globalization, the international contact is becoming more and more frequent. When dealing with or communicating with foreign friends, we have to use English as a tool of communication. So, there is no doubt that we must adopt'Communication Language Teaching'at all levels of schools in China. And thus, Communicative Language Teaching is gradually becoming the most popular and predominant teaching method in senior English classes in China. It is well known that English is mainly taught in classroom. Classroom teaching is the main form for the teachers to give knowledge to the students, for the students to develop their language skills, and for the students to learn English. Therefore, how to strengthen the English class management, how to develop the English communicative competence of the senior students and how to improve the efficiency of English teaching and learning has become a hot issue for each English teacher and educator. In view of such observations, this paper intends to do research into communicative English class management in senior in China,to consider various aspects of class management including the different roles of the teacher and students, student groupings according to different communicative activities and the learning process, disruptive behavior and discipline problems, to take full advantage of the role of teacher as a guider and to take the student as the center of learning English, to develop the good relationship between the teacher and the students, to create the harmonious atmosphere and to improve the efficiency of English teaching and learning.
