Along with the curriculum of elementary education reforming unceasingly andthoroughly, "the statistics" has become an important content in the new curriculum.Observing the world, understanding the world and transforming the world with the statisticalviewpoint is an important characteristic in the information age, grasping certain statisticalmethod also takes a necessary accomplishment for citizen. It is well known that statistics isthe most basic statistical concept, using statistics to reorganize and analysis data is one of theimportant statistical methods. So understanding the statistics properly and solving the actualproblem with statistics become important. In order to consummate and develop the teachingand study of statistics in the elementary and middle schools in our country as soon as possible,it's necessary to find out the pre-service teachers' understanding and interpreting situation ofmiddle school students' comprehension level on statistic in common use, as well as theirevaluation characteristic and tendency. This will be helpful to the deepening of the normalcollege and university students' comprehension level on statistic. Also it will promote thepre-service teachers' teaching on statistic, and enhance the evaluation ability in studentmathematics study.Evaluating the nature and the orientation of the research question overall, this researchwill use the orientation and the strategy of the qualitative research; mainly will apply theliterature, the questionnaire, and the interview. The investigation objects are 16 students fromthe key normal university of the Education Ministry. 4 undergraduate students and 12graduate students.This research has first selected 165 grade 3 students in Changchun, used thequestionnaire and got the collection of the real cases which may manifest the middle schoolstudents' comprehension level on statistic in common use. Later, present the collection to thepre-service teachers. Finally, carry on the analysis based on the teachers' evaluation and theinterview. Then get following conclusion:1. Pre-service teachers are not too familiar with the knowledge of middle school students'comprehension level on statistic in common use and the evaluation of it. While evaluating,they are strongly subjective.2. While evaluating, the pre-service teachers universally show dependence on the answer,and are not willing to carry on the evaluation in view of the questions independently.3. Most pre-service teachers have their own set of division standard to the middle schoolstudents' comprehension level on statistic, and can apply this standard which is "founded byoneself" to carry on the evaluation and the division.At the end of the paper, some enlightenments and suggestions about the training of thepre-service teachers are given.
