Purpose: Basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) expression is thought to play a critical role in mediating physiological and pathological angiogenesis and enhanced recovery in ischemic or damaged skeletal muscle .Present study indicates that bFGF modulates skeletal myoblast funtion and plays a key role in myoblast proliferation and inhibiting its differentiation. The present study investigated the time course changes in bFGF protein expression and capillary in rats'gastronemius as well as exercise—induced muscle damage(EIMD)repairing after acuteeccentric exercise, and wants to find the possible relation between them.Method:Sixty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats are divided into ten groups at random:control group(n=6);Single bout acute treadmill exercise group(n=54),which was further divided into 0h,1h,2h,3h,4h,1d,3d,5d,10d postexercise groups. Exercise group performed 200-min treadmill exercise at 16 m/min,on a -16°incline, with a 5-min rest period between two 100-min running bouts.Results(:1) In rats'gastronemius,bFGF protein level increased in the single bout of acute treadmill exercise group at 0h postexercise, reached the peak 1st day after exercise ,and decreased gradually from 3rd to 10th,the content of bFGF protein in 10th is still high than that of the control.(2)The most serious damage of rat gastronemius showed on the 1st and 3rd days after one bout of exercise, but the damage became less serious on the 10th and no further damage was seen in the microstructure of gastronemius .(3) Skeletal muscle capillaries were observed by light microscope, the results showed that capillaries obviously increased on 3rd,5th and 10th after exercise .however,it was not seen from 0h to 1st day. Conclusion:The time course changes in bFGF protein level was showed after single bout of acute treadmill exercise .bFGF promoted EIMD repairing and angiogenesis.
